On the 10th I recalled H.M.8. "010ALA” and H.M.S.
"ROBIN" who had been left in the Delta as late as possible to continue anti-piracy work.
Many thousands of refugees embarking for Hong Kong had flooked through Shameen during these days. Common humanity forbade stopping this as it was the only safe method of getting away from the City but the danger of a panic was always present.
In the early hours of the 12th the Cantonese made their attack, crossing below Tangshan under cover of their i gunboats' guns. The Whampoa Cadets and Li Fook lain's men were in this section and drove straight between the single line of trenches stretching across the Canton- Kowloon Railway and Canton City.
The Yunnanese retired, leisurely at first, but there was no resistance worth mentioning put up and by noon practically all was over.
